Originally titled Katipunan (Mga Anak ng Bayan),Sigaw ng Bayan recounts the founding of Katipunan and the 1896 Revolution. This part of the history saw life and blood resistance of the revolutionaries led by the Supremo, Andres Bonifacio.
Written by Bonifacio P. Ilagan, Sigaw ng Bayan was first staged in 1977 at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (UPLB) and was directed by the late Leo Rimando. It was rewritten and the title was changed to KATIPUNAN (Mga Anak ng Bayan). It has won 1st prize in the 1978 Cultural Center of the Philippines Playwriting Contest. The late Tony Espejo directed it as the maiden production of Bulwagang Gantimpala or the Gantimpala Theater Foundation today. It had been directed by highly acclaimed directors like the late Behn Cervantes and Rey Pimentel.
