Film, television, and commercial director Jade Castro, one of the most prolific and creative directors in the industry, tries theater for the first time, as he directs this year for VIRGIN LABFEST, now on its 11th year.

Direk Jade, who’s known for his works “Endo” (Cinemalaya 2007 special jury prize and gave Jason Abalos his Gawad Urian best actor), “Zombadings: Patayin sa Shokot Si Remington” (a blockbuster indie film starring Martin Escudero), “Beki Boxer” (one of the big hit comedy series of TV5), etc., is directing “DALAWANG GABI” by Maynard Manansala for the exciting annual one-act Pinoy plays.

Established in 2005, the VIRGIN LABFEST is a laboratory festival of new plays by emerging and established Filipino playwrights, held annually at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

The Virgin Labfest aims to provide Filipino playwrights a venue to present their unpublished, unstaged, untried and untested Filipino works to the theatergoing public. This festival is a yearly project of the Manila-based playwrights group Writer’s Bloc, Inc., acclaimed theater company Tanghalang Pilipino, Inc. and the Cultural Center of the Philippines in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

This year’s Labfest will run June 24-July 12 at CCP’s Tanghalang Huseng Batute.
