Dr. Vivencio Jose will talk on his book, The Rise and Fall of Antonio Luna, on October 27, 2015, Tuesday, at 1:30 to 4 pm at the Recto Hall of the UP Diliman Faculty Center, College of Arts and Letters. This event is sponsored by the Diliman Book Club, the Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature, and Anvil Publishing.
This is the book on which the box-office hit film, Heneral Luna directed by Jerrold Tarog, is based.
The author Jose concluded: “General Antonio Luna was killed but not his spirit. For memory is on his side, and memory is invincible, a terrible adversary of the villains of history. That is why those who have the gun try to kill memory by wiping out its bearers…. This patriot Luna will always live in the minds of the people as his ideals of a free, independent and democratic Republic survive beyond his physical mortality … This makes him an enduring hero who lives from one generation to another, one of the truly great leaders of the Filipino people.”
Vivencio Jose was a previous guest of the Diliman Book Club.
