LIKHAAN: The UP Institute of Creative Writing (UP ICW) celebrates Philippine writers with Writers Night 2016, an annual festivity comprised of three major events happening on December 2, 2016, 4-10pm, at the GT-Toyota Asian Cultural Center in UP Diliman.
First is the awarding ceremonies for the 16th Madrigal-Gonzalez Best First Book Award. This year, the award will be given to a writer in Filipino who has just written his or her first book. The finalists for this year are: Chuckberry Pascual (Kumpisal: Mga Kuwento), Zero A.D. (Uberman), RM Topacio-Aplaon (Lila ang Kulay ng Pamamaalam), Tepai Pascual (Maktan, 1521), Rogelio Braga (Sa Pagdating ng Barbaro at Iba Pang Mga Dula), and Mar Antony Simon Dela Cruz (Isang Gabi sa Quezon Avenue at Iba Pang Kuwento). The judges for this year are Jun Cruz Reyes, Genevieve Asenjo, and Angelo Suarez.
This is followed by the launch of the Likhaan Journal 10, an annual anthology of Philippine literary works published by the UP ICW. This year’s editor-in-chief is UP ICW fellow and UP Press director Dr. J. Neil Garcia.
Capping the evening’s celebrations will be the Writers Night 2016 festivities, which would feature poetry readings and performances from contributors to this year’s Likhaan Journal, renowned poets, and guest musicians.
