  3. Submissions should be sent via email to uplikhaan@gmail.com with the subject “Saling Panitik 2018 Application.” Incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
  4. The two-day Saling Panitik Translators Workshop is free of admission, and the ICW will provide merienda and lunch for the participants. However, the workshop will not cover overnight lodging.

The two-day event will feature an honorary lecture by Dr. Bienvenido Lumbera. Resource persons and discussants for this iteration of the workshop are Mr. Marne Kilates (translator and writer), Dr. Michael M. Coroza (writer and translator, Ateneo de Manila University), Prof. Ma. Crisanta N. Flores (faculty of the UP Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature and Commissioner of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino for Pangasinense), Mr. Niles Jordan Breis (award-winning writer in Bicol and Filipino), and Prof. Junley Lazaga (Professor of Language and Literature in UP Baguio and renowned Ilocano writer).

The rationale behind this workshop is the training of translators of our regional languages, particularly of literary texts that are now being used in textbooks for our classrooms. This is crucial in light of developments brought about by the K-12 program.

Saling Panitik aims to help establish a more standardized basis for literary translation, as well as to choose which works in both English and Filipino most merit such translation, study, and inclusion in our school textbooks. The seminar hopes to impart such principles and insights on the participants, which will then be applied in future translations of chosen works into our various regional languages.

For inquiries, call the UP ICW at 981-8500 local 2117 and look for Ronnie.
