Lacambra, Gexter

Gexter Ocampo Lacambra was born in Olongapo City where his family lived until he was five years old and grew up in Villasis, Pangasinan, the town of his mother. Gexter dreamt of becoming a full-pledged writer when he was still in high school, wanting badly to take up a degree in literature, say, in one of the country’s Big 4 universities but his parents could not support such an ambition to base himself and study in Manila. He ended up finishing a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education instead. Being a teacher in a private school in the Philippines prior to becoming an OFW, he wrote short stories and poems in Filipino and English which found publication in Liwayway, the Philippines Graphic, and some local publications by Ilocano groups. He was also a ubiquitous resource speaker on campus journalism in the Division of City Schools in Urdaneta City, he being an ardent school paper adviser. He was a fellow at the LIRA Poetry Clinic under National Artist for Literature, Dr. Virgilio S. Almario. He won second place in Tulaan sa Tren 2, a national poetry writing contest sponsored by the LRT and the National Book Development Board. He has also written some works for ANI of the CCP. While in the subway on his way to work, he writes English haiku or senryu  pieces on his phone and sends them to some online magazines. He now lives with his wife, Marilou and their two children, Gem Elijah Xerxes and Gaea Melanie, in Milan, Italy.
