Merquita, Errol A.

Errol Merquita was born and raised in Los Amigos, Tugbok Davao City. He received full writing fellowships from Ateneo de Davao, MSU-IIT (Iligan), De La Salle University (IYAS), University of the Philippines-ICW, UP-Cebu, UP-Tacloban and UP-Baguio. He is a recipient of Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards (2011, 2015, 2017) and Satur Apoyon Writing Contest (2010), for fiction in Cebuano and poetry for children in Filipino.

His works appeared in Philippine Graphic, Ubod 2016, IYAS Anthology, Best of Dagmay, Davao Harvest and Kabisdak among others.  He is a recipient of the University of the Philippines Chancellor’s Medal for Culture and Arts (2002) and Most Distinguished Alumnus Award (UP Mindanao , 2016). He is an active member of the Davao Writers Guild.

He is one of the  editors of, an on-line literary journal that comes out as a literary page of SunStar Davao every Sunday. Professionally, he served as program coordinator in various UN agencies. He is currently managing an emergency and early recovery projects in the   Islamic City of Marawi under an INGO.
