Librong LIRA and Merck will launch Louise O. Lopez’s first poetry book “Lungsod-lungsuran” on August 25, 2020 at 8 pm via LIRA and Librong LIRA Facebook pages.
Guests who will perform Lopez’s poems include Genevieve Asenjo, Karl Santos, Agatha Faye Buensalida, Vic Macapagal, Loaf Fonte, Eileen Villegas, Manuel Abis, Jerome Flor, Beverly Siy, Maria Vanessa Cruz-Zapanta, and Ma. Gemma Mendoza.
Filipino poet and novelist Genevieve Asenjo praised the poetry collection, “Itinutula [ni Louise] ang pulso ng kasalukuyang panahon: ang higit na walang-katiyakan kaya ang pamagat, dahil “panaginip ang makarating” saan “[d]ito, walang dahilan liban sa pag-iral,” at ang marami pang “maging”, “maaari,” “hindi ba.” Ambivalence as opposed sa earnestness. Playfulness din kapwa sa lengguwahe at anyo. Gusto ko rin na hindi mahahaba—attention span—bagama’t gusto kong sabihin na sa dami ng binabasa ko: mga obra ng mga estudyante at mga bagong libro ng mga banyagang batang makata via Kindle, na-sustain ako nito at equally sophisticated kung hindi man mas mahusay pa itong makata natin. May pamilyaridad man ang kanyang anyo sa istilo ng pagtula ngayon ng mga milenyal, may sarili siyang boses dahil na rin sa gagap niya ang wika at may sinseridad sa laman—hindi lang basta nagpapakitang-gilas o lutang. Lumalampas din sa personal maging ang domestiko niyang mga piyesa.”
Lopez is a poet, editor, and book designer from Cavite. She studied BS Psychology in Adamson University. She coedited the all-women poetry anthology “Lila” (co-published by Librong LIRA and Balangay) in 2019. She worked as an editor for Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino’s Aklat ng Bayan before her current work as a freelancer in the development sector. She has been an active member of LIRA since 2015. She has been a member of LIRA since 2015.
Lopez’s book will be the seventh poetry book published by Librong LIRA with publishing support from Merck, a vibrant science and technology company located in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig with headquarters in Darmstadt, Germany. This is the second time Merck supported Librong LIRA after publishing and launching of “Lila” in 2019.
Librong LIRA is the publishing arm of the Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika, at Anyo (LIRA). Librong LIRA’s list of published poets include of Enrique Villasis, Charles Tuvilla, Edgar Calabia Samar, Romulo Baquiran Jr., and Nicolas Pichay. LIRA is a nationally recognized, volunteer-run, education non-government organization that seeks to promote literature, the Filipino language, and patriotism. LIRA is the oldest organization of poets in Filipino and one of the country’s premier literary groups.
