• 1977-1979
– Logo: Adarna; karapatang-ari ng NCP Publishing Corporation
• 1980-1989

Adarna’s book giveaway for World Read-Aloud Day

Every year on the first Wednesday of March, World Read Aloud Day happens in order to lend a voice to the need for awareness about the significance of reading aloud.

We are happy to join the campaign in motivating “children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words and [creating] a community of readers taking action to show the world that the right to literacy belongs to all people.”

If your organization is interested in joining the celebrations by holding a read-aloud session on March 4, 2015 for a state-funded preschool, elementary school, library, or day care center  located in the Philippines, we will take care of the books and the storyteller. (*)

To apply, tell us why your organization believes that reading is important and why you are choosing your particular school or center. Responses can be submitted by filling out this form.

On February 23, we will announce the 10 organizations with the best responses. These 10 organizations will receive the following for their chosen beneficiary:

  • 10 big books for donation
  • 15 storybooks for donation
  • professional storyteller (*)

Non-formal organizations are accepted, but organizations must have first confirmed the session with the school or center before submitting the form.

In the occasion that the organization is selected, the organization is expected to turn over the books to their chosen beneficiary, document the read-aloud session, and post 2-3 photos to social media using the hashtag #WRAD2015 and tagging @AdarnaHouse and @litworldsays.

For further inquiries, contact Ergoe via ergoe [at] adarna.com.ph or (+632) 352-6765.

Adarna bares Manila Int’l Book Fair: book-signing sched + t-shirt Raffle + free tickets

September is just around the corner! This year’s Manila International Book Fair, the biggest convention of local and international publishers in the country, will be held from September 17 to 21 (Wed-Sat) this year, still at the SMX Convention Center.

Let us be the first to invite you to mark your calendars for this event, for which we have again prepared many surprises! We can’t possibly fit everything into one post, so we will start this off with the final book-signing schedule of our new title authors and illustrators. (See above image.) Of course, there will be many more authors and illustrators available at our booth so drop by anytime and you might just spot your favorite book creator there! As usual, we are giving out free printable MIBF tickets, just click here to download.

Also, our new shirt has been getting a lot of raves, and inquiries as to its availability. We thought it would be nice to give some out to 30 lucky readers. We will not be selling the shirt, so winners of the raffle will be the only ones, apart from our staff, to have this shirt. (Just click on the shirt for a chance to win one!)

KABANATA Young Adult Writer’s Workshop now accepting applications for fellowships

The Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) formally launches the KABANATA Young Adult Writer’s Workshop with a call for fellowship applications. Slated to begin in October 2014 in Quezon City, KABANATA aims to provide a venue and support system to writers who share in PBBY’s commitment to the promotion of a culture of reading among Filipino youth by providing this growing population with books that recognize their culture, aspirations, and sense of maturity.

For a period of at least six months, fellows accepted to KABANATA will meet monthly for learning sessions with industry experts, and progress discussions with their co-fellows. Upon novel completion, PBBY will help fellows with publication by inviting publishers to bid on the finished works. With this, KABANATA hopes to produce chapter books and young adult novels that will set the bar for similar endeavors to aspire to, and be the growth spurt of what will hopefully become a thriving, diverse, and quality Filipino literature inventory for kids and teens.

Applicants are asked to submit, among other requirements, a novel-in-progress represented by three chapters and a chapter outline. Novels-in-progress should be aimed towards children within the age of 9 to 16. Those interested may visit pbby.org.ph or bit.ly/kabanata to see the application guidelines, fellowship requirements, and complete workshop details. Deadline for applications is on July 31, 2014. For further inquiries, contact KABANATA via pbby.kabanata[at]gmail.com or (02) 352-6765 local 119.

The Philippine Board on Books for Young People (PBBY) is a private, non-stock, non-profit organization committed to the development and promotion of children’s literature in the Philippines and is the lead agency in the annual celebration of National Children’s Book Day (NCBD), which falls on the third Tuesday of July.

Adarna House to give away free books for Int’l Book Giving Day

February 14 is International Book Giving Day! We can take care of the books, if you can take care of the giving away.

Here’s how this will go down:

  1. Anyone can participate. We don’t care who you are, as long as you want to give some books away on Friday.
  2. There are 10 sets of book packages available for pick up at our showroom. Each book package contains 3 storybooks and 2 big books.
  3. The packages will be given away on a first-come-first-served basis at a limit of one book package per person. Anyone can come by our office, and we give the packages away, until all 10 have been picked up.
  4. Pick up may be done from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, tomorrow (Tuesday) until Feb 13 (Thursday). If you will come by after office hours, just ask our friendly security guards, and they’ll know what to do.
  5. Upon pick-up, take a picture of you and the books, at our showroom (or in front of our office building), and post the photo on Facebook or Twitter.
  6. On February 14, International Giving Day, post photos of your participation online. You can participate by doing any or all of the following:
    • Give a book to a kid you care about. Give a copy of your favorite children’s book to your kid, neighbor, student, pamangkin, or inaanak!
    • Be a mystery book giver. Leave a book somewhere you know kids will be, hand over a book to a random kid you cross paths with, or give a stranger a book for their kid. Don’t forget to wish them a happy International Book Giving Day!
    • Contact your favorite literacy group to donate. Help out in the efforts of educational organizations such as Inquirer’s Read AlongMuseo PambataReading Association of the PhilippinesSambat Trust, and DiksyonaryoAtbp.
  7. Each time you post something for this online, remember to use the hashtag #giveabook and tag us on Twitter, @AdarnaHouse and@bookgivingday, or on Facebook, AdarnaHouseOnline.

Valentines day is the perfect time to get kids to fall in love with books. And for playing Cupid, you will get the books packed in Ang Pambihirang Buhok ni Raquel tote bag with a matching notebook inside—both yours to keep—just because we think you’re really sweet.

Contact Ergoe through (02) 3526765 local 119 for questions.
