The University of Santo Tomas is now accepting applications to the 2014 UST J. Elizalde Navarro National Workshop in Criticism on the Arts and Humanities to be held in Baguio City from May 25 to 31, 2014.

The Varsitarian, the 84-year-old official student publication of UST, has been organizing this workshop for six years now in honor of the late Nationalist Artist for the Visual Arts and art critic J. Elizalde Navarro, who was their art editor and critic-poet during his student days.

Fellowships will be awarded to 12 promising critics and the grant covers the round trip fare from Manila to Baguio and the board and lodging for the duration of the workshop.

Applicants should submit a critical essay (15-25 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font) on any of the art forms (painting, sculpture, architecture, dance, drama, music, film, photography and literature). Manuscript should be in MS Word format.

Submit your manuscript together with an updated résumé, a recommendation letter from an academic mentor or an art critic, a certification that the work is original, and a scanned ID photo. Send your manuscript and forward your inquiries to Gary Devilles at on or before April 15, 2014.
