IN BINONDO: ONCE UPON A WAR, the first novel of 84-year-old University of the Philippines .University Professor Emeritus Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio is scheduled to be launched on Tuesday, November 4, 2:30 PM at the Claro Recto Conference Hall in the Faculty Center of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
Sponsored by the University of the Philippines Office of the Diliman Chancellor, the College of Arts & Letters, the Institute of Creative Writing, the Department of English & Comparative Literature and the Manila Times Publishing Corp., the book launching program will start with opening remarks by Dean Elena Mirano and a short talk on,”Our Productive Senior Professors” by Diliman Chancellor Michael Tan. This will be followed by an introduction by U.P.President Alfredo Pascual of the Guest of Honor, His Excellency Former President Fidel V. Ramos whose deep knowledge and broad experience in the military as a General of the Armed Forces of the Philippines leads him to this afternoon’s talk on “The High Cost of World War II.”
The UP Repertory Company and the Office of Initiatives for Culture and the Arts proudly present “Bangsa: Mga Dayalogo sa Moro”, a social realist production on the contemporary Moro people, told in three one-act plays by Palanca award-winning writer Rogelio Braga, directed by Dax Carnay and Emman Dela Cruz. The play tells of the Moro culture, identity, and autonomy, as disrupted by prolonged militarization; cultural and religious misrepresentation; Filipino colonization; and above all, their ongoing struggle for freedom and self-determination as a people. Bangsa will run from November 3 to 15 at the Bulwagang Tandang Sora, CSWCD, UP Diliman.
Guidelines
- This competition is open to Filipino citizens of all ages, published or yet-to-be published writers.
- The entry is one (1) unpublished novel, an original work, in English or Filipino. The theme is open. All genres are acceptable. Total word count of the novel should not go beyond 125,000 words.
- Only one (1) entry per contestant will be accepted. Entry must be the author’s own, which has not previously been published in any form (including self-publication). The entry must contain the title of the novel and the author’s pseudonym.
The College of Arts and Communication (CAC) of the University of the Philippines Baguio (UPB) invites the everyone to the various activities of its Visiting Professor, Dr. Aurelio S. Agcaoili.
Four new titles by Dr. Agcaoili will be launched on October 20, 2014, 02-00-04:00 PM, at the Circulation Section of the UPB Library. Two titles—Disidente a Balikas ken Dadduma Pay a Daniw, and Epsitolario ti Exilo ken Dadduma Pay a Daniw—are collections of old and new poems including the author’s award-winning poems. Desaperecido ken Dadduma Pay a Sarita is a collection of short stories; and Nakem: Salaysay iti Lengguahe, Literatura, ken Kritisismo is a collection of essays.
The CAC will also hold its Talastasan Lectures with Dr. Agcaoili on the last week of October, 2014. The Visiting Professor will talk on “Ilokano lexicography and critical consciouness” on October 28, 10:30-12:00, at the Sarmiento Hall, Student-Alumni Complex, UP Baguio. His talk on “Current problems in language and literature education in the Philippines” is scheduled on October 29, 09:00-10:30, at the UPB Sarmiento Hall. The lecture on “Problems of method and methodology in Ilokano and Amianan Studies,” will be on October 30, 10:30-12:00, at the CSS-AVR, UP Baguio; while the topic “Indigenous epistemologies, language, and Amianan studies” is set on October 30, 03:00-04:30, at the UPB Sarmiento Hall.
