Why do many of our school textbooks contain factual errors and questionable content? Do textbook authors, editors, and producers really know everything they need to know as far as textbook production is concerned? And the burning question: How do we make sure that Filipino students are armed with good textbooks using quality, copyrighted materials from local and international sources?

It is indeed the perfect time for Balangay Productions, a multimedia company, to launch a SEMINAR ON PHILIPPINE COPYRIGHT AND TEXTBOOKS. The speakers during this event will share information that will not only help the participants obtain answers to the questions above, but also provide complete, recent, and factual data on a wide range of topics related to copyright and textbook production. Attendees will learn how they can properly defend their own rights, respect copyright materials and copyright holders, and determine which materials may be used for free and without permission.

The seminar will be held on the 7th of May, 2016 (Saturday) from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the C&E Information Resource Center, 1616 Quezon Avenue, South Triangle, Quezon City. This seminar is perfect for those who are involved in textbook production, including textbook publishers, publishers’ representatives, publishing professionals, textbook coordinators, textbook editors, textbook authors/writers, textbook contributors, writers, illustrators, photographers, heirs of copyright holders, copyright coordinators, teachers/professors, members of the academic community who wish to publish their own textbooks or learning materials, and test/exam writers. The registration fee of P1,000/participant already includes a certificate of participation and some snacks. Attendees will also get the following: a sample permission letter, permission form, letter of query regarding the use of one’s work without one’s knowledge/permission, and other online resources on copyright for textbooks.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED; walk-ins will not be entertained. Those who wish to attend should register on or before April 30, 2016 by sending an email to [email protected] or by texting 0919-3175708. The event is being co-organized by C&E Publishing, Inc., Freelance Writers Guild of the Philippines (FWGP), Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), National Book Development Board (NBDB), and Filipinas Copyright Licensing Society (FILCOLS).
