Likhaan: UP Institute of Creative Writing’s Panayam Lecture Series returns this year with a roundtable discussion on The Legacy of the First Quarter Storm to Philippine Literature. Held in light of the 50th anniversary of the First Quarter Storm this 2020, the discussion will be on February 18, 2020, 10:00am-12:00nn at the CAL AVR in Palma Hall Pavilion 1, University of the Philippines Diliman.
To be moderated by Ramon Guillermo, the roundtable discussion aims to recall and reintroduce literature produced about or during the First Quarter Storm to an audience of young students and scholars; to trace and affirm the historical and current significance of such works; to explore contemporary works that resonate with the militant and activist spirit of the First Quarter Storm; and to discuss adjunct issues on literary production within specific political and sociohistorical conditions across history.
Participating in the discussion are Jose Dalisay Jr., multi-awarded author of the seminal Killing Time in a Warm Place (1992) among many other books; Kiri Dalena, filmmaker and visual artist of Barricade, book of slogans, erased slogans, and isolation room (2009) and various documentaries with Southern Tagalog Exposure; and Glenn Diaz, scholar and writer of the multi-awarded The Quiet Ones (2018), his first novel.
All are enjoined to come, listen, and participate in the conversation. The discussion is free and open to the public.
