The 13th Rogelio Sicat Writers Workshop (Palihang Rogelio Sicat, PRS) will be held at the Miag-ao campus of the University of the Philippines-Visayas. PRS, the only all Filipino language national writers workhop, will accept 15 writers for its thirteenth year. It will be held on May 27-31, 2020.

Prof. Ricardo P. Babaran, UP-Visayas Chancellor has announced this in a recent meeting with PRS founders Jimmuel Naval and Reuel Molina Aguila of the UP Departament of Filipino and Philippine Literature (DFPL).

Vladimeir Gonzales, U.P. DFPL Chair, said his department sponsors PRS 13. So does the UP Sentro ng Wikang Filipino of Diliman (headed by Michael Andrada) and UP Sentro ng Wikang Filipino of Iloilo (headed by Jose Julie Ramirez).

To join the workshop, applicants must send any of the following collection of works: five (5) poems; two (2) 10-15 paged short stories, or two (2) children’s stories (each with 8 pages or less), or four (4) dagli or flash fiction (no longer than two pages each), or two (2) short creative non-fiction (malikhaing sanaysay) (with 10-15 pages); or one (1) one-act play. Enclose a short bionote, contact details, and a colored photo of the author. All manuscripts must be written in Filipino. Format manuscript in 12 pts Arial, double spaced, 8 ½ x 11 sized paper.

Authors writing in other Philippine languages can submit manuscripts translated into Filipino. Send applications to on or before April 20, 2020. Inquiries can be sent to this email address.

PRS 13 provides the fellows’ board and lodging, and transportation allowance to Iloilo in selected cases. PRS is an annual writers workshop supported by the UP DFPL, UP Diliman Office of the Chancellor, and the Office of the President, UP System.
