The UP Institute of Creative Writing held its first online iteration of the UPNWW last year from October 19-23, 2020. Workshop sessions were held via Zoom. Audiences were able to tune in on the discussions and lectures through the livestreams on Facebook and YouTube.

Despite the change in format, the workshop was able to promote healthy discussion on the craft and on the workshop pieces. This year, following feedback from both staff and participants, scheduling adjustments have been made to enhance connections among fellows, make sessions more productive, and allow for ample rest.

For this turn, our workshop director is Ramon Guillermo. The workshop panel, composed of the Advisers, Fellows, and Associates of the UP ICW, include National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera, National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario, Gémino H. Abad, Jose Y. Dalisay Jr., Charlson Ong, Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, J. Neil Garcia, Jun Cruz Reyes, Ramon Guillermo, Victor Emmanuel Carmelo Nadera Jr., Luna Sicat Cleto, Eugene Y. Evasco, Roland Tolentino, Romulo Baquiran Jr., Anna Sanchez, and Vladimeir Gonzales.

The UP National Writers Workshop (UPNWW) aims to help writers who have already published (or are on the verge of publishing) a book or have won major literary awards, in further honing their craft. It is complemented by the Amelia Lapeña-Bonifacio Writers Workshop (ALBWW) for young and emergent writers, which has been postponed indefinitely in keeping with pandemic safety measures.
