Quezon City, Philippines– Members of the Kurit-Lagting, a community-based art collective from Sorsogon together with environment group, EcoWaste Coalition recently held a virtual training session  on visual communication and digital applications for environmental campaigns such as advocating against waste-to-energy incineration and banning single-use plastics.

The online training which was held via zoom was joined by barangay officials, volunteers and campaigners.  Participants were able to apply the lessons learned from the activities during the training especially on the use of boomerang, hyperlapse, and canva applications in crafting communication materials on social media.

The speakers of the said training were Allan Abrigo, Geri Matthew Carretero, and Gerald Jintalan.

Allan Abrigo is one of the co-founders of Kurit-Lagting Art Collective and an environmental campaigner. He has worked with various organizations and academic institutions as speaker and trainer on art workshops, campus journalism, visual communication, and media campaigns.

Geri Matthew Carretero is one of the co-founders of  Kurit-Lagting Art Collective. A visual communications specialist, multidisciplinary artist and community development worker, he currently works as Communications Officer for Plastic-Free Pilipinas and as consultant for communication, branding, advocacy and networking for NGOs that help children, youth, women, persons with disability (PWDs), and other vulnerable groups. He is presently finishing his Master of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.

Gerald Jintalan is a member of the Kurit-Lagting Art Collective. He is a multimedia artist, radio host, dj, and reporter for Bicol News Network and Wow Smile Radio.  He is currently a media fellow at GAIA Asia Pacific and Plastic Free Pilipinas project creating video reports, and multimedia materials on the environment. He is also the incoming Communications Officer for Mother Earth Foundation.
