The pen is as mighty as the sword. When many of our battles are fought in confinement, words become a source of comfort and direction. This November, Likhaan’s PAN and GANAP are featuring a special series, “Poetika Pandemya,” a collaboration with LIRA (Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika, at Anyo). There will be a total of five (5) episodes that will be held every Saturday, starting on November 6, 2021.

“Poetika Pandemya elaborates on the idea that when chaotic times call for summation of thoughts, distillation of emotions, clarity of intent, and strengthening of resolve, the Poem and the Poet must be there to meet it. World Wars, calls for overhaul of governments, upheavals stemming from race, gender, social and economic relations have all been marked by great poems and poets reading their works and speaking to and on behalf of their generation. It is time that Filipino poets speak of their experience about this pandemic storm and be the lighthouse that guides all ships away from the waves of desperation and into the safety of shore.”

One poet will be featured on each episode:

November 6 – Nicolas Pichay
November 13 – (TBA)
November 20 – Virgilio Almario
November 27 – Enrique Villasis
December 4 – Vim Nadera

Performers will be given approximately one (1) hour for a short talk about any subject related to poetry and for their premier reading of an original, new, long poem in any language about the pandemic.

The program will be aired at 6PM on Saturdays via the Likhaan Facebook page and YouTube account. Stay tuned to the Likhaan Facebook page for updates on the series throughout the month.

The Poetika Pandemya series aims create a space where people can come together as a form of introspection, intellectualization, and healing. On the five coming Saturdays, join us as we make sense of pandemonium through words.
