The efforts of writers in keeping Philippine literature alive in the last two years is no small thing. We want to celebrate that bravery in the face of all the challenges the pandemic threw our way, and so we are throwing a party: the UP Writers Night!

The 2021 UP Writers Night will be held on November 26, 6PM. For a safe night of merriment, we are holding it online for the first time via Zoom. The event will also be available for livestreaming on our Facebook page.

The UP Writers Night is a yearly gathering that pays homage to both the country’s established and up-and-coming writers. This time, we are celebrating two years’ worth of excellent writing, highlighting works published by our ICW fellows and workshop fellows from 2020 to 2021. We are also giving you special previews of our upcoming issues for the Likhaan Journal of Contemporary Literature and the Dx Machina anthologies.

This festivity is also a time for giving. There will be performances from a variety of artists. Books donated by our partners, including UP Press and Milflores Publishing, will be up for raffle. Publishers will be at the event so that writers can reach out and work with them. We will also have a short fundraising for writers who have been and continue to be affected by the pandemic.

Aside from celebration, the UP Writers Night is an affirmation of writing. We are calling writers to join us as we speak up about the freedom to write and be informed.

It will be a night of repose as we sit down and toast to the successes of the last two years. But it is also a time of resolve as we gather inspiration to continue writing the way forward.

See you on the 26th!
